Is It Your Router?

The first step in diagnosing slow or spotty wifi signals is looking at your router and its setup in order to determine if the router is actually the issue or not. Some of the things that need to be checked initially include:

 • Where is the router positioned? Depending upon the strength of your router and the size of your space, the position of where you router is located in relation to your devices could have something to do with poor wifi signal.

• Is there anything physically blocking your router? If your router is positioned in a place that has any obstructions surrounding it, then these things could be physically blocking the signal from being as strong as it could be.

• Are there any interferences? Routers use frequencies for wifi signal distribution, and if you live in close proximity of other routers and signals, such as apartments and other close spaces then these other signals could be interfering with your wifi signal.

• Is your router capacity maxed out? If you know that you’re in a place that the bandwidth needs to be larger than normal to serve several users at once, then you need to be sure you’re using a router that matches your capacity needs.

If you’ve checked all of these things, and everything seems to be in working order, then you may need to purchase a new router. We can help recommend various things that you need to consider when purchasing your new router.

Purchasing A New Router

If you’ve determined that purchasing a new router is the best option for you, then you need to take into consideration your specific needs before making your choice. Consider the size of your space, the amount of people that will be using your wifi, the number of devices that will need to connect to your wifi and where the router will be located in your space.
