All three provide good transmission over a wide distance, but they use slightly different methods for transmitting signals. The difference in method and quality lies in the length of the fibers. Optical fiber is the oldest and the best-known system for transmitting data over long distances; however, it is also the most expensive. Optical fiber can transmit data at faster speeds because of its light transmission capability, but it is the most susceptible to signal degradation over long distances.


Another benefit of having fiber optic cabling installed is that it is much easier to install than other systems. For instance, coaxial cable installation is more difficult than fiber optic cabling because coaxial cables are made using fiberglass strands.
